{#TransparentTuesday} Fitness isn’t enough

Editor’s note: These posts were written back when my brand name was Remodel Fitness. I’ve decided to include them here without editing them, in the interest of…well… transparency. 😉

Why I’m dropping the name “Remodel Fitness” from my brand.

A few days ago, I spent $4,000 to meet with a business coach with 4 hours, and it was one of the best experiences of my life.

Don’t get me wrong, I actually hemmed and hawed quite a bit about the decision to spend that much money on an afternoon. I’ve been burned hard by a business coach in the past, and I was definitely feeling wary. But this woman was a recommendation from a trusted friend, and when we first met to chat she made it clear that she wasn’t interested in pushing my brand into a box to make money.

This was wildly important to me, because one infuriating thing about your heart and soul’s mission also being your business is that you know you’re taking massive financial losses.

When I was traveling around Thailand and meeting other young digital nomads, they would always ask me what I do and what I sell. I’d tell them:

well I take a few coaching clients, and I run a few courses but that’s pretty much it. Mostly I spend my time writing and creating and filming free content in the service of women learning how to love themselves.

Once they understand that people appreciated my body-positive message, but still spent their dollars elsewhere on fitness and fat-loss, they were stunned at the fact that I refused to create fitness and fat loss products.

But you’re a fitness brand, and you could be making SO much more money,” they would say, baffled.

Ha I know,” I would respond.

Why don’t you just sell them the damn fat-loss product they want to buy?

My reason is simply that I refuse to be a part of the problem. I know that many women find my site, and dig my message, and really want to love themselves. But I also know that they want to get in shape and lose some fat, and that following a fitness program is only a band-aid fox.

There is deep healing that needs to be done for them to make the change they really desire, and selling people a bandaid fix isn’t good enough for me.

My transparent truth today is that I started Remodel Fitness as a fitness brand, because I was seeing how effective strength training was at helping women break through barriers, see what they’re capable of, and build authentic confidence. I created it because I personally was in love with lifting weights, and I wanted to share that experience with others.

But honestly, fitness isn’t enough.

Strength training and fitness will always be essential tools in my toolbelt for helping women love themselves, but that’s all they are– tools. There are a million tools available, and you certainly don’t need to deadlift to learn how to love and accept yourself and live your best life.

You DO need to move however. Finding a form of movement that you enjoy and can focus on performance gains is a non-negotiable part of healing negative body image and learning how to step into your power. Maybe that’s not fitness for you though. Maybe it’s ballroom dancing, or trail running, or yoga.

Anyway, this is why I’m dropping the name Remodel Fitness from my brand. This is why I’m building a new website as we speak, and why I’m not wearing any workout clothes in the new website’s photos. This is why I hired a business coach for 4k to figure out how to transition gracefully and authentically.

Hint: she advised me to keep you in the loop. Which you know I would have done anyway, but it felt good to hear it from someone else. 🙂

I could make an absolute killing selling you fat-loss products with a body-positive spin. I could crush it in the affiliate sales department, telling you exactly why you need this supplement or that.

But this brand isn’t just a brand. It’s my soul’s calling. And I refuse to let it be anything less than my highest and most truthful work.

So please consider this email to be an invitation to unsubscribe, if you’re just here for the fitness info. I will continue to transition into the inner work, offering tools and solutions to what I consider to be the real problem you’re facing.

And let me make this clear. I believe the problem you’re facing isn’t cellulite and love handles. I believe it’s a lack of true connection, joy, and freedom, due to the walls you’ve had to build to keep yourself safe here. My job on earth isn’t to get you in shape,

it’s to help you become aware of those walls, thank them for protecting you when you needed protecting, and then take them down so you can be EXPANSIVE and FREE again.

(And sure, if you need some help getting your body and energy moving, I have workout programs in my toolbelt to help with that.)

Big bear hugs, Jessi
